Ann was born in November 1827 in Westhoughton and her baptism took place there on November 23rd, 1827.1 2  Ann's father was Geffrey (Jeffery) Mather and her mother was Catherine Gregory.  Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Mary Green. She had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Joseph, John, Edward, Ellen, Ellen, Alice and Mary.

‌Ann and Richard were married in a religious ceremony on June 22nd, 1846 at St. Mary (Deane).3   They had four sons and a daughter, named Geoffrey, William, Richard, Edward and Elizabeth.  There are possibly more children.
