Ellen was born in January 1818 in Westhoughton.  Ellen's father was Geffrey (Jeffery) Mather and her mother was Catherine Gregory.  Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Mary Green. She had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Joseph, John, Edward, Ellen, Alice, Ann and Mary.  She died at 1 months old in February 1818 in Westhoughton.  She was buried on February 18th, 1818 at St. Bartholomew (Westhoughton).1 1
