Henry was born in July 1803 in Billinge and his baptism took place on July 10th, 1803 at St. Aidan (Billinge).1  Henry's father was Henry Mather and his mother was Betty Anderton.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Hannah Cross. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, Richard, Richard, James, James, Mary, Hannah and Hannah.  He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
