Elizabeth was born in 1835 in Levenshulme and her baptism took place there on January 6th, 1836.1 2  Elizabeth's father was William Mather and her mother was Mary A Rowland. She had six brothers and three sisters, named John, James, Joseph, Stephen, Ephriam, Thomas, Ann, Harriet and Sarah.  She was the third youngest of the ten children.
