Abraham Mather

Abraham was born in 1790 in Haslingden and his baptism took place on November 29th, 1790 at St. James (Haslingden).¹

Birth Notes
- Abraham may be of Halifax (while a Soldier), Manchester (where he married) or Haslingden (baptised and first wife Sarah lived). He had connections to all three places.

Abraham's father was William Mather and his mother was Margaret (Peggy) Ashworth. His paternal grandparents were Abraham Mather and Anne Barns. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James, Thomas, John, Henry, Betty, Anne and Nancy. He was the seventh oldest of the eight children. He died before 1837.

Death Notes
- Abraham Mather burial 5 Nov 1792 in Turton (only mother shown) was the son of Daniel and Margaret Smalley, born 29 May 1791, so must be another.
  
  The death for Abraham Madder, Burial 11 Apr 1790 must be another (e.g. his grandfather) as Abraham was baptised November.
  
  Abraham had died by 1851 when Margaret a Widow (but maybe not if he was a biggamist and with another woman).
  
  Probably died before 1837 as no possible Lancashire deaths:

General Notes
- In 1790, Abraham was born at Haslingden. The family then moved elsewhere.
  
  In 1808, Abraham (22, born Clifton) was in the 84th Foot Soldiers, 2nd Battalion
  
  11 March 1815, Abraham Mather a Soldier married Margaret Liddle at Halifax. At the time both were from Halifax.
  
  In 1816 and 1819, Jane and Sarah were baptised at Manchester Cathederal. Abraham was a labourer, then a slater.
  
  It then appears that Abraham became a multiple biggamist, marrying two (or more) widows.
  
  In 1824, Abraham Mather, batchelor and Salter of Manchester married Hannah Barrat, a Widow.
  
  In 1827 Abraham a Slater and Hannah had a daughter Elizabeth baptised at Manchester Cathederal.
  
  In 1832 Abraham Mather, a widower and Slater married Mary Aldrifge, a widow at Manchester Cathederal.
  
  In 1837, daughter Sarah married John Story. Her father Abraham was still a slater.
  
  The 1851,61,71 census confirms Margaret was from Halifax.

  From 1816 his occupation was Labourer in Manchester.
