John (Old Hatter) Mather

John, known as Old Hatter, was born about 1690 in Haslingden.

He died on December 13th, 1756 in Haslingden. His burial was on December 13th, 1755 in Haslingden.¹

General Notes
- Before 1723, there are no marriage or baptism records for John. It is likely he married Martha had a son John baptised elsewhere (possibly Bury or Bolton).
  
  In 1729 (indexed 1730), when James was baptised the record shows John was a Hatter.
  
  In 1739 (if Martha had died) John remarried Mary Fielding. However there is a death record for Martha in 1749. Therefore it is likely to be John's son and both are hatters.
  
  In Dec 1756, John, a labourer (aka The Old Hatter) of Haslingden died.
