Anne was born in 1780 in Haslingden and her baptism took place there on January 14th, 1780.1  Anne's father was William Mather and her mother was Margaret (Peggy) Ashworth.  Her paternal grandparents were Abraham Mather and Anne Barns. She had five brothers and two sisters, named James, Thomas, John, Abraham, Henry, Betty and Nancy.  She was the second oldest of the eight children.
