Elizabeth (Betty) Mather (Madder)

Elizabeth, known as Betty, was born in 1777 in Haslingden and her baptism took place on November 16th, 1777.¹

Betty's father was William Mather and her mother was Margaret (Peggy) Ashworth. Her paternal grandparents were Abraham Mather and Anne Barns. She had five brothers and two sisters, named James, Thomas, John, Abraham, Henry, Anne and Nancy. She was the oldest of the eight children.

- Betty was probably poor as in the Workhouse (which can act as a hospital) when Nancy (and possibly Peggy) baptised.
