Ethel's father was William Thomas Lea and her mother was Florence Gertrude Aldersey. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Lea and Elizabeth Brereton. She had five brothers and three sisters, named William, Percy, Ernest, Marshall, Stanley, Florence, Daisy and Rose. She was the third oldest of the nine children. She died at the age of 85 on January 10th, 1994 in Wrexham.
