Thomas was born in January 1793 in Quarlton and his baptism took place on January 28th, 1793 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Thomas' father was John Isherwood and his mother was Betty Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Betty Flitcroft. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named James, James, John, Harry, William, Richard, John, Betty and Mally.  He was the second oldest of the ten known children.
