Edward was born on December 21st, 1919 in Birkenhead.1  Edward's father was John William Hughes and his mother was Jessie Brereton.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Brereton and Ellen Goodman Roberts. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, George, Frank, Arthur, George, Jessie and Ellen.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 72 on November 9th, 1992 in Birkenhead.1
