Wright's father was James Greenhalgh and his mother was Alice Hardman. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Robert, James, Joseph, William, Mary, Rachel, Sarah and Ellen.  He was the second youngest of the nine children. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named Thomas, William, John, Handel and Sarah.  He died at the age of 1 in 1850 in Bolton.¹
