Emily was born in March 1878 in Birkenhead.1  Emily's father was James Eddowes and her mother was Martha Griffiths.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Eddowes and Martha Jones. She had three sisters named Martha, Florence and Martha.  She was the second oldest of the four children. She had two half-brothers and six half-sisters, named James, (Alfred), Mary, Alice, Hannah, Emma, Mary and Elizabeth.  She died at the age of 8 in 1886 in Birkenhead.1
