After her mother died, John, Mary, Willian and James were sent to St. Vincent's, a Poor Law School in Fulwood, Preston. Mary was then sent to Canada as "British Home Child" through the Catholic Emigrating Association.
Mary stayed in Canada, where she worked as a domestic for a farmer North of Ottawa. She eventually married a man from Ottawa and died there in 1959.
