Charles was born in January 1904 in Birkenhead.1  Charles' father was John Francis Cross and his mother was Lillian Eddowes.  His maternal grandparents were William Eddowes and Elizabeth Shortreid. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, William, James and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the five children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Francis, Joseph, Elizabeth and Mary.  He died in January 1904 in Birkenhead.1
