Thomas was born in 1742 in Austonley and his baptism took place on May 20th, 1742 in Almondbury.1  Thomas' father was John Crosland and his mother was Hannah Garthside. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named Richard, Samuel, John, John, John, Joseph, James, Joseph, Hannah, Anne, Mary, Grace and Sarah.  He was the seventh oldest of the fourteen children.
