Grace was born in 1746 in Austonley and her baptism took place on August 3rd, 1746 in Holmfirth conducted by Vicar Rushton.1  Grace's father was John Crosland and her mother was Hannah Garthside. She had nine brothers and four sisters, named Richard, Samuel, John, John, Thomas, John, Joseph, James, Joseph, Hannah, Anne, Mary and Sarah.  She was the eleventh oldest of the fourteen children.
