Richard's father was John Crosland and his mother was Hannah Garthside. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named Samuel, John, John, Thomas, John, Joseph, James, Joseph, Hannah, Anne, Mary, Grace and Sarah.  He was the oldest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 77 in August 1802 in Austonley.  He was buried on August 24th, 1802 in Almondbury.¹
