Thomas was born on October 17th, 1794 in Turton and his baptism took place about 1794 at Walmsley Presbyterian.1   Thomas' father was Thomas Crook and his mother was Hannah (Nanny) Walsh. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named John, James, Joseph, Luke, Dan, Peter, Charles, Nanny, Mary and Ruth.  He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
