Charles was born on May 9th, 1810 in Turton and his baptism took place on July 1st, 1810 at Walmsley Presbyterian.1   Charles' father was Thomas Crook and his mother was Hannah (Nanny) Walsh. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named John, James, Thomas, Joseph, Luke, Dan, Peter, Nanny, Mary and Ruth.  He was the youngest of the eleven children.
