Martha was born on September 29th, 1850 in Hooley Hill.¹

- Born in Hooley Hill according to 1851 census.
  Called Audenshaw in 1861.
  
  In 1901 the census is more specific. Birthplace is Guide Bridge, which is just 500m North of Hooley Hill. Their son Willian B however (on the same census), is born at Hooley Hill.

  WARNING: There is another Martha Ann Buckley, dau of John and Mary born 22 May 1850.

Martha's father was Benjamin Buckley and her mother was Patience (Patricia) Oldham. Her paternal grandparents were John Buckley and Mary Crook; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Oldham and Sarah Hewitt. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named Henry, Silas, Arthur, Sarah, Mary, Emma, Ellen, Edith, Beattie and Sarah. She was the second oldest of the eleven children. She died at the age of 66 on February 9th, 1917 in Hollinwood. Her burial was in March 1917 in Hollinwood.²³

  William and Martha lived in Hollingwood, Oldham. Martha was living at Marshside, Southport in 1911. Her daughter Beatrice was with her. Had she separated from her husband? Well she is still recorded as married.
  
  Her husband was a Baptist Pastor, which is consistent with this baptist family.

    - Benjamin, Patience and Martha Bucklet living at Giude Lane, in the village of Hooley Hill in 1851.
      Still there in 1861 with larger family, but by now it is called Guide Road.
      The whole family (all sons and daughters) are still there in 1871, now called Guide Lane again.
      
      In 1881, the house number is also recorded (as 42). Only Patiens and the 4 youngest children, Ellen, Edith, Bertrice, and Silas remain.
