Sarah's father was Benjamin Buckley and her mother was Patience (Patricia) Oldham. Her paternal grandparents were John Buckley and Mary Crook; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Oldham and Sarah Hewitt. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named Henry, Silas, Arthur, Sarah, Martha, Mary, Emma, Ellen, Edith and Beattie. She was the youngest of the eleven children. She died at the age of 1 on April 13th, 1876 in Ashton-under-Lyne. Her burial was in Audenshaw.²³
