Benjamin was born on September 25th, 1822 in Bolton and his baptism took place on September 25th, 1822 at Moor Lane Baptist.¹²

Benjamin's father was John Buckley and his mother was Mary Crook. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Buckley and Sarah Ogden; his maternal grandparents were John Crook and Rachel Kay. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Cornelius, Jonathan, Sarah, Mary and Ellen. He was the youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 55 on August 19th, 1878 in Hooley Hill. His burial was on August 22nd, 1878 in Audenshaw.³⁴

- WARNING: There is another Benjamin Buckley, Baptised at Shaw (between Rochdale and Oldham), son of John and Sarah. Thay had children between 1814 (Mary) and 1825 (Sarah). This John was a Joiner at Hartfield, and later a Shopkeeper.
  
  In 1841, Benjamin (17) was an Oil Sheet Maker living with his parents John (also an oil sheet maker) and Mary and 6 bother siblings at Crook Street, Bolton.
  
  In 1848, Benjamin, when living at 12 Canal Street, Manchester, married Patients Oldham.

      Cornelius Buckley was recorded as living here in 1838 when he married Esther Scowcroft.
      
      John Mather recorded Crook St as his address in 1838 when his son Benjamin was born and again in 1842 when his wife Ellen (John and Mary's daughter) died.
      
      By 1851, except for Mary, their children had left home and they had 9 lodgers and visitors to fill what must have been a big house.
  He lived at 42 Guide Lane for thirty years from 1851 to 1881.¹

      Still there in 1861 with larger family, but by now it is called Guide Road.

      In 1881, the house number is also recorded (as 42). Only Patiens and the 4 youngest children, Ellen, Edith, Bertrice, and Silas remain.
