Martha was born in July 1839 in Harthill and her baptism took place there on September 29th, 1839.1  Martha's father was Richard Brereton and her mother was (Elizabeth) Ellen Lea.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and Elizabeth (Betty) Haywood; her maternal grandparents were John Lea and Ester Ellen Lea. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Richard, John, Ester, Sarah, Elizabeth, Anne and Martha.  She died due to a childhood disease at the age of 2 on March 27th, 1842 in Great Boughton.  Her burial was in Harthill.2 2
