Ann's father was Thomas Barlow and her mother was Betty (Elizabeth) Mather. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Ann Entwistle. She had five brothers and two sisters, named William, Thomas, Robert, James, John, Maria and Jane. She was the seventh oldest of the eight children.

Death Notes
- The Mary Ann Barlow that died in 1847, aged 5 and buried at Holcombe was the daughter of BARLOW+LORD i.e. another child.
