Alice's father was John Henry Ashall and her mother was Louisa Pennington. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Pennington and Martha Mather. She had a brother and six sisters, named Harry, Elsie, Lily, Jessie, Doris, Evelyn and Phylis. She was the sixth oldest of the eight children. She died as an infant in 1904 in Halliwell.¹
