John was born on October 23rd, 1919 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire and his baptism took place on November 13th, 1919 in St.Mary Abbey Church, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.1  John's father was John Thomas LONG and his mother was Maggie HALL.  His paternal grandparents were Robert LONG and Sarah PEARCE; his maternal grandparents were George HALL and Margaret Crowley SHILTON. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Stanley, Reginald, George, Grace, Maggie, Lily, Beatrice and Dorothy.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 73 on July 23rd, 1993 in George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.
