William Riley was born on November 21st, 1837 in Hutton Twp., Coles Co., IL. William Riley's father was James+ Rennels and his mother was Mary+ Connelly. His paternal grandparents were John+ Rennels and Nancy+ Ewing; his maternal grandparents were Joel Jackson+ Connelly and Effie+ Pennington. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Henry Leatherman, Edmund, John Pennington+, Joel Jackson, Rebecca Ann, Martha Jane, Sarah Elizabeth and Mahala Pearl. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 79 on December 23rd, 1916 in Coles Co., IL.General Notes

1880 Census for Hutton Coles, IL shows William R. Rennels as a farmer (age 42, Father from KY mother from NC) with 3rd wife Mary Jane (Fox) (age 30 father from KY mother from KY). William's family was living next door to his brother John P. Rennels and family, who lived next door to brother Edmund and his family. William's sons Simon and James and daughter Mary A., from his 1st marriage to Mary Jane Gilbert, along with Silas from his 2nd marriage to Martha White, reside in the household with their step-siblings. Son Ivory Franklin (mother Mary Jane Fox) is not listed in this census.
