Henry Leatherman was born on September 21st, 1827 in Lawrence Co., IN.. Henry Leatherman's father was James+ Rennels and his mother was Mary+ Connelly. His paternal grandparents were John+ Rennels and Nancy+ Ewing; his maternal grandparents were Joel Jackson+ Connelly and Effie+ Pennington. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Edmund, John Pennington+, William Riley, Joel Jackson, Rebecca Ann, Martha Jane, Sarah Elizabeth and Mahala Pearl. He was the oldest of the nine children.
