TENCHER/TINCHER NOTES
1750/51- 27 Feb.: Wm Preston to George Campbell & Saml Tencher, 215 acres on head of Great Calfpasture. Teste: James Caldwell, John Bigham, John Maxwell. "Preston, William to Campbell...pg 142, Deed Book III, 1750/51: this indenture made the 26 day of February in the year of our Lord 1750, between William Preston of the County of Augusta of the first part and George Campbell and Sam'l. Tincher of the County of Augusta of the other part. WITNESSETH; that the said William Preston for and in consideration of the sum of 5 shilling current money of Virginia, to him in hand paid by the said George Campbell and Samuel Tincher [Tencher] at or before the sealing of and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, has granted, bargained, and sold, and by these presents does grant, bargain and sell unto the said George Campbell and Sam'l. Tencher, one certain tract of land lying and being in Augusta Co. on the head of the great river of the Calfpasture containing 215 acres and is bounded as followeth: "to the beginning . . . and all houses, building, orchards . . . water courses, profits, comodities and appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises, hereby granted or any part thereof, belonging or in any wise appurtaining and the remainders and remainders rents, issues and profits thereof, to have and to hold the said 215 acres of land and all and singular premises hereby granted, with the appertenances unto the said George Campbell and Sam'l. Tencher, ex hrs. admors. and assigns from the day before the date whereof and during the term and time of one whole yr. from thence next ensuing fully to be completely and ended, yielding and paying the rent of one pepper-corn on sady day next of the same, shall be lawfully demand to the intent and purpose that by virtue of the presents and of the statue for transferring these unto possession the said George Campbell and Sam'l. Tencher may be in actural possession of the said premises and thereby be able to except and take grant of and release the repossession and inheritance thereof. To them and their airs in Witness wherof the sd. William Preston doeth hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written sealed and delivered in presence of Wm. 1752- Samuel Tencher signed a petition for a mill with other inhabitants of the Calfpasture, Thomas Gilham; Samuel Hodge; Andrew Kincaid; Robert Gum; John Kincaid; Robert Gay; Andrew Hunter; James Campbell; John Campbell; William Willis; Wm. Hodge and Robert McKittrick. [The Tincher Tribe, p. 16]
1754 - 6 Mar.: Andrew Lewis enters two 200 surveys on Bratton's Run in the Calf Pasture which runs through that place of Dunlap's where he last lived and 100 ac. on the Little River between McCutchen's land and Clendenning's old place, and 200 ac. at a meadow on a branch of the Great River of the Calf Pasture near a mile northwest of Saml TENCHER'S .... 1755 - 19 Nov.: Margaret Fulton's bond as Adm of Thomas Fulton, with sureties John Kinkade & Samuel TINCHER.
1756 - 17 Nov.: James Lockridge & Isabella to Wm. Kincade, 24 lb, 260 ac. on Great River of Calfpasture, corner Robert Guin's land, corner Robert Lockridge, Preston's line. Teste: Samuel TENCHER, Delivered: Jno Kincaid per order 19 Apr 1819. Recorded on motion Margaret Kincade for William. (Vol III, p. 344]

1770 - 18 Nov: George Campbell and Samuel TINCHER and Margaret, of Albemarle County, to Thomas Kinkead, 75 lb., 215 ac. on Great Calfpasture, patented to Wm. Preston, 1 Jun 1750. Teste: John Bigham, Andrew & Joseph Kinkead. Delivered: Tully Davit, 1776 [Vol III, p. 505].

February 15, 1776: Thomas Kinkead and wife Hannah of Augusta County sold to Tully Davitt of Augusta County 260 acres on the great river of the Calfpasture, originally a part of a patent to Preston and conveyed (215 acres of it) to Campbell & Tincher and conveyed by them to Thomas Kinkead and another parcel of 45 acres which had been conveyed to Thomas Kinkead by Andrew Kinkead who had received the land by patent. Witnesses: William Bowyer, Robert Gambell, Thomas Bell.*37
1777 - Indian troubles had settlers rushing to the Fort at Camp Union (Lewisburg). Help for the people on Muddy Creek was sent by Captain Henry Smith. In the new county of Greenbrier was Wiilliam Tincher & his father Samuel who signed a petition for the "commissioners to consider and adjust their title claims". [The Tincher Tribe]
1780 - 22 Mar - Samuel Tincher signed a petition asking to be relieved from further payment of taxes and other levies because of old age. [Greenbrier Co. WV records]
1780 - 5 Dec. - Samuel & William's signature are on a list of tithable persons to raise twenty tons of hemp for the purpose of making a market road to Richmond. On 20 Nov 1781 Samuel signed another petition opposing taxing for clearing a 48 mile road through Botetourt Co. to Warm Springs, in Augusta Co. It was becoming impossible to raise money for such projects because of the costs of defending themselves and providing for their families. [T.T.T. p.18]
1783/86 - Tax List for Greenbrier Co. - includes Thos. Kincaid; Thos. Kincaid; 3 John Kincaid(s); Francis, Samuel & Wm. TINCHER.
1790- 15 Mar. - Samuel wrote his will. He is buried somewhere in the Muddy Creek area of Greenbrier Co. WV.

Will of Samuel Tencher-Tincher....Recorded in book No. 1, page 43, Court House at Lewisburg, W.VA. Will dated March 15, 1790
In the Name of God Amen, I Samuel Tincher of the County of Greenbrier, being of perfect memory and understanding, but remembering that it is appointed for all men once to die and that the time when it may please the Almighty to determine my existence in this life uncertain do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, hereby revoking and Disannulling all and every Will or Wills by me heretofore made, published or Declared.
IMPRIMIS. I give my Soul unto that Almighty God who gave it and my body to the Earth there to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter to be named, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection of the dead it will be raised by the mighty Power of God and with my Soul enjoy everlasting happiness thru the merits of Jesus Christ my redeemer; and as for what worldly goods it hath pleased God to bless me with, I bequeath and devise the same in manner and form following.
Viz:
ITEM: I give and bequeath unto my Elder Son William Tincher all my books (except my Hymn book) together with all my wearing apparel, and also a moiety of that tract or parcel of land I purchased from my Son, Francis Tincher, lying in the aforesaid County of Greenbrier, being part of the tract or parcel of land whereon the said Francis now lives and adjoining the lands of Thomas Kinkead; to him and his heirs and assigns for Ever.
ITEM: I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Hannah the wife of Thomas Kinkead the other moiety of the aforesaid tract or parcel of land together with all my stocks of horses, cows, sheep and hogs, and my household furniture now in her husbands possession likewise all bonds, notes and debts due to me, to her, her heirs and assigns for Ever, provided always that she pay any Debts which I may owe at my decease.
ITEM: I give unto my Son, Francis Tincher the sum of five Shillings if demanded and no more.
ITEM: I hereby constitute and appoint Thomas Kinkead the Husband of my aforesaid Daughter Hannah the sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fifteenth day of March in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety.

This last Will and Testament of Sam'l Tincher dec'd was presented in Court, and on the motion of Tho. Kinkead the Executor therein named, who made oath according to law. Certificate is granted him for obtaining a profit thereof in due form, whereupon he has given security and acknowledged his bond with condition according to law. Teste: John Stuart, Clk.
