John was born on September 15th, 1780 in Guilford, NC. John's father was Thomas Cook and his mother was Mary Mills. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Cook and Mary+ Underwood; his maternal grandparents were John+ Mills and Sarah+ Beals. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Isaac, Thomas, Jacob, William, Zimri, Nathan, Sarah and Elizabeth. He is the fifth oldest of the ten children.General Notes
