Hugh d'Aubigny 5th Earl of Arundel 
Hugh was born in 1215 in Arundel Castle,Arundel,West Sussex,England. Hugh's father was William III d'Aubigny 3rd Earl of Arundel and Sussex and his mother was Mabel De Meschines. His paternal grandparents were William II le Breton d'Aubigny Earl of Sussex and Maud or Matilda de St. Hilary du Harcouet; his maternal grandparents were Hugh Keveliok (3Rd Earl) De Meschines and Bertrade d'Evreux Montfort. He had a brother and seven sisters, named William IV de, Cecily, Isabella, Colette, Cicely, Maud, Nichole and Isabella. He was the second youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 28 on May 7th, 1243 in Wymondham Priory, Norfolk, England.General Notes

His castle at Arundel was bequeathed to his nephew John Fitz Alan. [Falaise Roll, p. 2]
On his death in 1243, "in the flower of his youth", Hugh's estates were divided and John Fitzalan, feudal lord of Clun and Oswaldestre, inherited the castle and honour of Arundel through his mother, Isabel d'Albini. [Arundel Castle, p. 22]
Succeeded his brother William when he was a boy of nine. Hugh was given seisin of his great possessions (though still under age) in 1235, having married in the previous year Isabel, daughter of William de Warenne, Earl of Surrey and lord of Castle Acre (not far from Castle Rising) in Norfolk. He died 'in the flower of his youth' on 7 May 1243, again leaving no heirs, and the Albini inheritance was divided among his sisters and co-heiresses, passing in effect to their husbands. Hugh's widow survived him for almost 40 years, and was
buried in 1282 at Marham, Norfolk, in the church of the convent for Cistercian nuns which she had founded there. [Castle Rising, p. 15]
