Amaury III De Montfort 
Amaury III De was born in 1070 in Montfort, Eure, France.1 Amaury III De's father was Simon I Baron & Count De Montfort and his mother was Agnes De Evereux. His paternal grandparents were Amaury II Baron De Montfort and Bertrade De Gometz; his maternal grandparents were Richard Count Devereux and Godhilda Goodchild Adelaide of Barcelona. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Richard De, Simon II De, Guillaume de, Bertrade and Adeliza. He had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named Amauri 'The Strong' De, Eva Eve de, Isabel de, Isabel De and Isabel. He died at the age of 67 in April 1137. Amaury de Montfort, count of Evreux, and his grand-nephew, William Crispin III, both bitter enemies of Henry I, plotted to take Robert de Chandos prisoner or assassinate him and capture the fortress of Gisors. They made arrangements to meet him in the town, but Robert, hearing the noise made by the invading forces
and sensing the plot, fled within the fortress, which he defended successfully until the arrival of King Henry, who brought forces to his succour a short time afterwards from Pont-Audemer. [Falaise Roll, p. 90]
Ralph the Red (Le Roux) was in charge of King Henry's forces which opposed Amaury de Montfort and William Crispin III in their bitter feud with the king. [Falaise Roll, p. 124]
Amaury, son of Simon de Montfort; b.c. 1065, as he led the forces of William Rufus against Montfort and Espernon in 1098, was fighting before Gisors in 1123 and died in 1137. [Falaise Roll, p. 130]

From the reign of William Rufus (1087-1100) to that of Edward III (1327-77), Farleigh was known as Farleigh Montfort and was held by the Montfort family, who had a manor house on the present site of the castle. Between 1334 and 1348 Reginald de Montfort sold the property to de Burghersh, one of Edward III's
