Simon III Baron was born in 1117 in Montfort, Sur-Risle, Eure, France.1 Simon III Baron's father was Amaury III De Montfort and his mother was Agnes De Garland. His paternal grandparents were Simon I Baron & Count De Montfort and Agnes De Evereux; his maternal grandparents were Anselm (Count) De Garland and N.N. De Monthlhery. Simon de Montfort, the Albegensian crusader, who obtained the honour and earldom of Leicester in abt 1206. Simon first went on crusade against the heretics in 1209 and he does not seem to have been in England at any subsequent date; moreover in Feb. 1207 his lands were taken into the king's hand. In a return of knights' fees held of the earl of Leicester c. 1210-12, Walerannus de Bygore is entered as holding a quarter of a fee. La Biguerie lies near the western edge of the forest of Breteuil; and in the QUERIMONIAE NORMANNORUM of 1247 it is stated that in the time of the earls of Leicester, lords of Breteuil, the men of La Biguerie had the right of gathering wood in the forest; and in a list of fees of 1210-1220 in the Registers of Philip Augustus, Neaufles, in which it lay, is shown as held of the honour of Breteuil.
