Joel was born in 1818 in Rockingham Co., Virginia.1 Joel's father was John Meadows and his mother was Mary Harness. His paternal grandparents were James Meadows and Catherine Boswell. He had four brothers and six sisters, named John Hiram, William, Ambrose, Noah A., Susan, Elizabeth, Catherine, Mary, Lucinda F. and Matilda. He is the oldest of the eleven children.General Notes
