Her paternal grandparents were John Meadows and Mary Harness. She had three brothers and eight sisters, named Jeremiah Maxwell, John Wesley, Elijah Steward, Synda Ann, Sarah E., Mary Frances, Rebecca Jane, Susanna Eliza, Nancy W., Matilda Catherine and Harriet Eliza.
