Henry was born in 1829 in Overton, Bradford Co., Pa...1 Henry's father was Henry Sherman and his mother was Catherine Hunsinger. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Sherman and Elizabeth Williams; his maternal grandparents were Johan Jurg Huntzinger and Mary Ann. He had five brothers and a sister, named George, Daniel, Amos, Peter, Jacob and Mary. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He had six half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Nelson, William, John, Moses, Andrew Washington, Edward, Catherine, Loretta, Vielene, Caroline and Anna. A town-plat was laid out at the site which is the present village of Overton, in 1856, by Henry Sherman, and the first lot was sold to Joseph Mosbacker, a blacksmith. It is situated in the southeastern corner of the township, and contains three general stores, three blacksmith shops, one cooper and two-shoe shops, one grocery and confectionery store, one church, and a schoolhouse.
