Effie Lee was born on July 17th, 1901 in Coosa Co., AL.1 Effie Lee's father was William Powell McEwen and her mother was Martha Georgiana Adams. Her paternal grandparents were George Washington McEwen and Mary Catherine Sears; her maternal grandparents were William Henry Cidney Adams and Lucy Frances Carriker. She had nine brothers and three sisters, named William Vernie, Vernie May, Stewart Washington, George Samuels, Charles Edward, Thomas Jefferson, James Berdie, John Adams, Tera Anderson, Lilla Maye, Annie Belle and Mary Lucy. She was the second youngest of the thirteen children. She died at the age of 57 on May 19th, 1959 in Sylacauga, Talladega Co., AL. Effie and her husband, Robert C. Nail, died on the same day after being
hit by a truck while pulling out of their driveway onto Highway 231 near
Sylacauga, AL. They were travelling to Hanover to check on work in
progress at Bobby Nail's farm.
