Tabitha Jane was born on December 22nd, 1808 in GA.1 Tabitha Jane's father was Wiley W. Buckner and her mother was Judith Tapley Handley. Her paternal grandparents were John H. Buckner and Mary M. Brown. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Micajah W., Leonard, Tapley M., Edwin H., James Madison, Elizabeth, Delilah, Catherine S. J., Martha and Mary B.. She was the fifth oldest of the eleven children. She died at the age of 84 on July 1st, 1893 in Coosa Co., AL. She was buried in Sears Chapel, Coosa Co., Rockford, AL.1 1 General Notes

Tabitha was a mid-wife for her community. She carried a little black
satchel and rode around the county on a gray mule. She was known to be
stern in her practice, demanding that new mothers remain in their rooms
for a week and off their feet for at least three weeks.

Tabitha's maiden name is not given in the marriage index I used. Nor is
the date of the marriage. The odds are that John and Tabitha were married
in GA since the first child, Mary Catherine Sears, was born in GA. There
is curious marriage of Ledson, John A. & Tabbathy Buckner 27 Apr 1833 in
Talbot Co., GA. Was John's last name misspelled or could not be read
well. On 27 May 1999, I received information from Janice Barnett Craft,
Greenville, Miss., who has been doing research on the Buckner family for
forty years +. Her records have John's & Tabitha's marriage date 27
April 1833. On 29 Mar 2001, I found the correct marriage date. There was
an error in the marriage records: Leder, (ERROR - actual name is Sears)
