Franklin Harper Elmore 
Franklin Harper was born on October 15th, 1799 in Laurens District, SC.1 Franklin Harper's father was John Archer Elmore and his mother was Mary Ann Sarah Saxon. His paternal grandparents were Archelas Elmore and Susannah Morris; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin Saxon and Elizabeth Perry. He had a brother and three sisters, named Benjamin Thomas, Narcissa, Sophia Saxon and Charlotte Perry. He had ten half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John Archer, Jr., Morris Martin, William Augustus, Luther Alfred, Henry Marshall, Laurence Ludlow, Physick Rush, Winfield Scott, Albert Standhope, James Scott, Susan Elizabeth, Sarah Terry, Mary Martin and Ann Harriet. He died at the age of 50 on May 29th, 1850 in Washington, D. C.. He was buried in First Presbyterian Churchyard, Columbia, SC.1 1 General Notes

ELMORE, Franklin Harper, a Representative and a Senator from South
Carolina; born in Laurens District, S.C., October 15, 1799; was graduated
from the South Carolina College at Columbia in 1819; studied law; was
admitted to the bar in 1821 and commenced practice in Walterboro, S.C.;
solicitor for the southern circuit 1822-1836; colonel on the staff of the
Governor 1824-1826; elected as a State Rights Democrat to the
Twenty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of
James H. Hammond; reelected to the Twenty-fifth Congress and served from
December 10, 1836, to March 3, 1839; president of the Bank of the State
of South Carolina 1839-1850; declined appointment by President James Polk
as Minister to Great Britain; appointed as a Democrat to the United
States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John C. Calhoun
and served from April 11, 1850, until his death in Washington, D.C., May
29, 1850; interment in First Presbyterian Churchyard, Columbia, S.C.
