Grace Brown was born on November 19th, 1839 in Columbia, SC.1   Grace Brown's father was Franklin Harper Elmore and her mother was Harriet Chesnut Taylor.  Her paternal grandparents were John Archer Elmore and Mary Ann Sarah Saxon; her maternal grandparents were John Taylor and Sarah Cantey Chesnut. She had three brothers and eight sisters, named John Taylor, Franklin Harper, Jr., Albert Rhett, Sally Cantey, Harriet Chestnut, Mary Singleton, Ellen Sophia, Caroline Cornelia, Harriet Chestnut, Mary Susan and Rosa Ann.  She was the fourth youngest of the twelve children.  She died at the age of 72 on June 3rd, 1912 in Florence, SC.  She was buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC.1 1
