His paternal grandparents were Thomas Archer II Elmore and Mary Austin; his maternal grandparents were Gerrard Robert Ellyson and Sarah (?). He had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Abijah, Virginia Cecelia and Mary. He was the oldest of the five children. He died in Prince Edward Co., VA.1 General Notes
