Henry Elmore - Appears to be the earliest Elmore in the Southeast, US. He
arrived in 1653 to Williamsburg, VA and resided in Glouster Co., VA. He
was of the Quaker Faith. Children included: Thomas and Peter.
Thomas Elmore, Sr. was a son of Henry Elmore above. Thomas was born
abt. 1670. His wife was Mary _______. They married in 1697. It appears
they too resided in Glouster Co., VA. Children were: Thomas Jr., Austin,
Mary, William, and John.
Thomas Elmore, Jr. was a son of Thomas Elmore, Sr. Thomas, Jr. was born
Mar. 29, 1700 and died in 1749. He married Cicily Ellyson in 1729. She
was the daughter of G. Robert Ellyson of New Kent County, VA. She died
in 1772 in Rowan County, NC. She resided in the Deep River community in
what is now Guilford Co., NC. Children were: Abijah, Thomas, Archelos,
Hannah, Mary, Judith and Cicely. Archelos married Susanna Morris and
would settle in Laurens, SC.
Abijah Elmore was a son of Thomas Elmore, Jr. He was born abt. 1740 and
after living a while in Rowan Co., NC settled in Surry Co., NC. He had a
brother named Thomas who was born Sept. 5, 1739. This Thomas married Ann
Sanders (1767) in Rowan Co., NC (now Western Guilford County). There was
also a sister named Mary who married Joel Sanders in 1768. Another
sibling is likely Stephen Elmore who had received a Granville Land Grant
of 495 acres on March 15, 1756 in the Deep River area of Rowan County
(now Western Guilford County). Abijah's wife's name appears to be
Elizabeth. Abijah purchased 320 acres of land along Deep Creek in Surry
Co., NC (now Yadkin County) on May 7, 1784.
Athanacius Elmore was a son of Abijah Elmore. Athanacius was born abt.
1765 and married Susannah Penix on July 5, 1788. Athanacius would reside
in Surry Co., NC (now Yadkin Co., NC) until his death in 1821. Children
were: Atha Callahan, James, William, Betsy, Malinda, Susannah, Kelly,
Sally, Polly, and Anna.
James Elmore was a son of Athanacius Elmore. James was born in 1800 and
was married to Sarah _______ . She was born in 1806. They resided in
Surry Co., NC. Children were: Athanacius (b. 1827), Henry (b. 1830),
Susannah (b. 1832), Mary (b. 1834), William (b. 1837), Malinda (b.
1840), James R. (b. 1842), George W. (b. 1845), Sarah A. (b. 1848), John
(b. 1851), Nancy (b. 1855).
George W. Elmore was a son of James Elmore. George W. Elmore was born
1845 and married Marinda Myers on July 17, 1865. She was born in 1840.
They resided in New Castle Twp., Wilkes Co., NC. Children were: Sarah R.
(b. 1866), Nancy C. (b. 1868), Mary J. (b. 1872), William C. (b. 1872),
Alexy C. (b. 1875) and Thomas J. (b. 1876).
W. Cephas Elmore was a son of George W. Elmore. W. Cephas was born June
1871. He married Mary J. Mackey in 1893. She was born Sept. 1870. They
resided in Lovelady Twp., Caldwell Co., NC. Children included: Willam A.
(b. March 1895), George (b. Nov. 1896), Walter (b. June 1898), Spencer
(b. Apr. 1900), Henry, Edward, Betty, Jessie, and Thurmon.
William A. Elmore was a son of W. Cephas Elmore. He was born in March
1895. He would marry Pearl Moretz. She was born March 1898. They would
reside in Pennsgrove, Salem County, New Jersey. Children were: William A.
Jr. (b. Oct. 1, 1918), Raymond W. (b. Oct. 27, 1920), Carroll M. (b. May
26, 1922), Marie P. (b. Jan. 16, 1927), Douglas W. (b. Nov. 16, 1929),
and Louise (b. Oct. 30, 1930).
