Moody was born on May 29th, 1922 in Downsville, Union Parish, LA.1 Moody's father was John William Bridges and his mother was Stella Skains. His paternal grandparents were William Bridges and Delila Jane Jacks; his maternal grandparents were Thomas A. Skains and Bertha Honeycutt. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Thomas Alvin, John William, Jr., Binford, Myrtle, Trudy S., Marzie Cordie, R. V., Foye, Neola Gray and Janie Ophilia. He was the youngest of the eleven children. He had three half-brothers named Ocie Lafayette, Lonnie Howard and William Archie.-
