John S. Bowden 
John S. was born on September 8th, 1812 in Oglethorpe, GA/Oglethorpe, Macon Co., GA.1 John S.'s father was John Bodine. He had thirteen brothers and eight sisters, named William, James, Jackson J., Charles Went, Wiley F., James Newton, Allen Blanton, James, James, Thomas, Samuel, Oliver Hazard Perry, William Robert, Polly, Feriba\Fariba, Anna, Jane, Lucinda, Elizabeth, Isabella M. and Winny Jane. John S. Bowden came from TN to AR in 1840 with his brother, Jackson. He
settled in Marion Co, Center Valley, AR? He was the first of the
Bowden's to migrate from Lawrence Co., TN to Pope Co., AR in 1842,
settling at Gum Log, AR. They then moved to Valley Township and bought
200 acres of land. He had cleared 90%of the land of logs by the time of
his death in 1865. John served 3 terms with the Arkansas Legislature. He
was killed by bushwhackers in 1865 near Gum Log, near the end of the
Civil War.
