James Newton was born in April 1820 in Lawrence Co., TN.1 James Newton's father was John Bodine. He had thirteen brothers and eight sisters, named William, James, John S., Jackson J., Charles Went, Wiley F., Allen Blanton, James, James, Thomas, Samuel, Oliver Hazard Perry, William Robert, Polly, Feriba\Fariba, Anna, Jane, Lucinda, Elizabeth, Isabella M. and Winny Jane. James Newton Bowden came to AR from TN in 1860. He came by ox-drawn,
covered wagon and settled on Crow Mountain, AR.
Baptism was done by Owens children.
James Newton were married in a religious ceremony on August 13th, 1839 in Lawrence Co., TN.1 He had nine biological sons and four biological daughters, named John H., William Jasper, Joseph R., Lafayette T., Newton II, Columbus Washington, Henry B., Charles Went, James R., Elizabeth Jane, Mary E., Elizabeth and Madora Alice.
