John Wiley Combest 
John Wiley was born on November 25th, 1838 in Russell County, Kentucky.1 John Wiley's father was Wiley Combest and his mother was Sarah Hammond. His paternal grandparents were Samuel D. Combest and Sarah Dick; his maternal grandparents were John Hammond and Margaret Peggy Wilson. He had a brother and a sister, named Samuel Josiah and Sarah Jane. He was the second oldest of the three children. He had eight half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Thomas Riley, James William, Lewis L., Infant Son, William, Infant Son, Barton, George, Gilla Ann, Patsy M., Eliza M. and Mary C.. He died at the age of 77 on January 13th, 1916 in Valdesta, Tx (buried in Coleman Cemetery).1 General Notes

John and Susan raised their family near Evona, Kentucky, where he was a
merchant and blacksmith. During the Civil War years, he boated corn on
the Cumberland River and they lived in Jamestown, Kentucky.
Combest Newsletter indicates that John Wiley Combest had a log home in
Casey County, Kentucky located on Sloan Creek Road, - built in the late
1880's. There is a picture in that newsletter of the house.
