From the book "Samuel Combest and His Descendants".
Chapter X: Wiley Combest 1815 - 1869.
Wiley Combest, the fifth son and ninth child of Samuel and Sarah "Sallie"
Dick Combest, was born just two days before Christmas, December 23, 1815,
in Kentucky.
Wiley Combest married Sarah "Sallie" Hammond in Pulaski County, Kentucky
on September 29, 1836. Sallie hammond was born in Kentucky to Squire John
Hammond, a slaveholder of Pulaski County. Sallie Hammond Combest died
after the birth of her third child in 1840 and according to tradition,
Wiley married her sister, Martha Hammond. Martha was born around 1828. It
appears that Martha died also, as she is not recorded in the 1860 Russell
County, Kentucky census with the family of Wiley Combest. Family
tradition also states that Wiley married a third time to Mary Roy (I
found a record in the Early Kentucky Marriages which stated her name as
Polly Ann Roy)
The 1850 census of Pulaski County, Kentucky page # 130, taken on
9/18/1850 records the family of Wiley Combest as follows:
Combest, Wiley 34 KY
Combest, Martha 22 KY
Combest, Sarah 13 KY
Combest, John 11 KY
Combest, Samuel 10 KY
Combest, Thomas 6 KY
Combest, Gilly 5 KY
Combest, Patsy 2 KY
Combest, James 6-1/2 Mo KY
(I made a copy of this 1850 Census page)
The 1860 census of Russell County, Kentucky census records the family of
Wiley Combest as follows
Combest, Wiley 44 KY
Combest, Thomas R. 15 KY
Combest, Gilley 13 KY
Combest, Patsey M. 11 KY
Combest, Lewis L. 9 KY
Combest, William 7 KY
Combest, Mary 1 KY
The 1870 Census of Casey County, Kentucky, lists a Mary Combest, age 39,
living in the household of an aged Hammond Widow of about 70. Hammond
widow's first name and age are not clear. Also in the household were:
Combest, Barton 7
Combest, George 3
These may be Wiley Combest's widow (third marriage) and her two young
sons. Wiley's will, recorded in Casey County, Kentucky, dated 5/15/1869,
mentions wife Mary and two infant sons (not named). His sons James M. and
John Wiley Combest are named as executors of the will. He describes the
location of his farm on which he lived as being on Sloan Fork and Turkey
Creek. He also asked that 50 acres of land on Horse (or House) Fork of
Wolf Creek be sold. Further instructions mention another parcel in
Russell County.
