James Combest 
James was born on January 27th, 1804 in Kentucky.1 James' father was Samuel D. Combest and his mother was Sarah Dick. His paternal grandparents were John Combest and Ann \\; his maternal grandparents were John Dick and Margaret Wylie. He had six brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Samuel D., Alexander, Wiley, Archibald, Nancy, Mary Eveline and Margaret. He was the third oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 51 on February 15th, 1855 in Shelby County, Illinois.1 General Notes

Some family tradition states that there was also a child named Caudy or Caudice. No record has been found to date to prove or disprove his/her existence. Another theory regarding this name is that "Caudy" may have been a nickname for one of the children of James and Nancy Bowmer Combest.
