Laura was born on February 20th, 1809 in Danville, VT.1   Laura's father was John Rankin and her mother was Lois Whitcher.  Her paternal grandparents were James Rankin and Margaret Witherspoon. She had six brothers and five sisters, named David, John, Asa, Edwin, Henry, Horatio, Marion, Abigail, Lois, Maria and Sarah.  She was the fourth youngest of the twelve children.  She died at the age of 69 on June 15th, 1878.

‌Laura and Warner were married in a religious ceremony on April 30th, 1840 in Danville, VT.  They had two sons and a daughter, named Horatio Henry, James Warner and Laura Rankin.
